Highway 95 roadwork in Cambridge begins April 20
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Those who travel on Highway 95 through Cambridge should plan for delays as the Minnesota Department of Transportation begins the first year of a two‑year reconstruction project on Monday, April 20.
The $18 million project will reconstruct and improve Highway 95 between Fern Street and Fillmore Street. The project will be done in three segments from west to east. In 2026, crews will first work between Fern Street and Dellwood Street; then Dellwood Street to Main Street.
What to expect from April 20 until mid-October on Highway 95:
- April 20 to early May: Periodic lane or shoulder closures on Highway 95 east of Isanti County Road 70 as crews prepare the work zone, build the crossover connection to Second Avenue SW and set up the detour.
- Early May to late July: Highway 95 will close from west of Fern Street to east of Dellwood Street:
- Detour: Westbound Highway 95 will use Cypress Street S and Second Avenue SW; eastbound Highway 95 will use Second Avenue SW and Birch Street S. Download the early May to late July detour map (PNG).
- Late July to mid-October: Highway 95 will close from east of Dellwood Street to west of Main Street:
- Detour: Both directions of traffic will use Dellwood Street S, 11th Avenue SE and Garfield Street S. Download the late July to mid-October detour map (PNG).
- Local traffic: Highway 95 will remain open to those who live, work or visit those along the work zone; however, expect changes and use of alternate accesses. Hard closures will occur to replace underground storm sewer and utilities. Follow signs and enter/exit nearest to your destination to avoid delays.
Crews will return in 2027 to reconstruct and expand the final segment west of Main Street to east of Fillmore Street. When complete that fall, travelers will benefit from a smoother, stronger highway; updated underground infrastructure and city utilities; and improved safety, access and traffic flow through Cambridge.
