Eastbound I-94 in St. Paul closed April 10 weekend to set bridge beams at John Ireland Blvd
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – This spring, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is resuming work to rebuild the John Ireland Blvd. bridge over I-94 in St. Paul. Portions of eastbound I-94 will be closed starting 10 p.m. Friday, April 10, through 5 a.m. Monday, April 13 to set the bridge beams.
Eastbound I-94 will be closed between Hwy 280 and I-35E. Traffic will be directed from northbound Hwy 280 to Hwy 36 to southbound I-35E. View a detour map.
After 10 a.m. Friday, the eastbound I-94 ramp to 10th St. will be closed to accommodate building a crane for the project. Between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Friday, traffic will be directed to the 5th St. ramp. The ramp will reopen along with I-94 on Monday morning.
Additionally, Kellogg Blvd. from Rondo Ave. to Mulberry St., as well as Concordia Ave. from Western Ave. to Kellogg Blvd., will see temporary, 20-minute closures and delays on Saturday, April 11 between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic as bridge beams arrive at the construction zone.
This project is on schedule, and the bridge is expected to reopen this August, weather permitting. We appreciate your patience during construction.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule dependent and subject to change. MnDOT encourages people traveling in and around downtown St. Paul to plan ahead and review closures, especially for high-traffic summer events. MnDOT also urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
This project requires periodic weekend closures of I-94 and partial bridge closures throughout the summer to ensure proper maintenance of bridges along the interstate For more information about this project work or to sign up for email updates, visit the project website at: mndot.gov/metro/projects/johnirelandbridge.
