Temporary lane closures on Riverfront Drive in Mankato begin Feb. 23 for the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge project
MANKATO, Minn. – A section of Riverfront Drive in Mankato, from just south of East Main Street to just south of Plum Street, will have partial lane closures beginning Monday, Feb. 23, as part of the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge project, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The lane closures are needed while crews install a work platform beneath the bridge girders. The lane closures will be adjusted as the work progresses from east to west. They are expected to last about two weeks and will be lifted on weekends. Motorists should expect brief delays in this area.
The Veteran’s Memorial Bridge project includes significant repairs to the bridge and improvements to the Belgrade Avenue Bridge over Highway 169 connecting the cities of North Mankato and Mankato. Additionally, interchange ramp signals will be replaced, ramp configuration will be modified, and sidewalks will be replaced.
The Veteran’s Memorial Bridge and Highway 169/Belgrade Interchange are expected to remain closed until late 2026, weather permitting. Additionally, Riverfront Drive in Mankato will also have temporary lane closures or closed intermittently throughout the project. Final construction wrap-up work is expected in 2027 without additional detours.
Ames Construction, Inc. was awarded the project with a bid of $21,273,398.92.
Belgrade Avenue project, North Mankato
North Mankato will reconstruct Belgrade Avenue from just west of Range Street to Nicollet Avenue beginning in April 2026 through July, weather permitting.
