MnDOT wraps up two-year reconstruction project on Highways 59, 108 in Pelican Rapids

DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—The complete streets reconstruction project on Highway 59 and Highway 108 in Pelican Rapids is wrapping up, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. All lanes, entrances and sidewalks are now open, but motorists should watch for workers who may still be on-site for finishing touches and final cleanup.

Work began on the $22.8 million project in April 2024, and was completed in stages over two construction seasons. The completed work included:

  • Reconstructing and resurfacing Highway 59 and Highway 108 in the city of Pelican Rapids
  • Replacing more than 20 blocks of city utilities
  • Constructing roundabouts at the two junctions of Highway 59 and Highway 108
  • Realigning the intersection at Highway 59 and County Road 9
  • Installing new sidewalks and shared-use path

MnDOT thanks the entire Pelican Rapids community for their patience, cooperation and commitment to safety throughout the two years of road work.

A separate project will take place in 2026 for planting the trees downtown.
