Final weekend closure ahead for Hwy 65 in Blaine

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The final weekend closure on Highway 65 between Spring Lake Park and East Bethel is scheduled this weekend in Blaine, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Beginning at 10 p.m. Fri., Oct. 27, northbound Highway 65 will close between 109th Avenue and Main Street/County Road 14. Motorists will be unable to access 114th Avenue past Baltimore Street but traffic will be able to cross Highway 65 at 117th Ave/Paul Parkway. Weather permitting, the road will reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30.

During the closure, traffic should follow the signed detours to reach local businesses and avoid delays.

Northbound detour: East on 109th Ave., north on Radisson Rd. and west on Main St./Co. Rd. 14 to NB Hwy 65

The four weekend closures are part of preliminary work to prepare for a larger resurfacing and repair project on the highway in Anoka County next year. Construction this fall and next year is between Anoka County Road 10 (Mounds View Boulevard) in Spring Lake Park and 237th Avenue in East Bethel. Work this year includes construction of nine temporary crossovers to carry traffic across the median next year to allow traffic to cross the median and travel in a single lane in each direction on the side not under construction. Construction crews also will replace 12 culverts along the 14.5 mile stretch of road between Spring Lake Park and East Bethel. Work this year will be complete by mid-November.

As the second project on Highway 65 begins next spring, motorists will encounter single lane traffic and some full weekend closures with detours, as construction crews resurface 14.5 miles of roadway. Crews also will replace bridges with box culverts at Coon Creek and Viking Boulevard, reconstruct settled pavement, install cable median guardrail, improve drainage and install curb ramp and sidewalk improvements at several intersections. The project will be completed by late fall of 2024.
