Third weekend closure scheduled for Hwy 65 in Ham Lake

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The third of four weekend closures on Hwy 65 between Spring Lake Park and East Bethel is scheduled this weekend in Ham Lake, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Beginning at 10 p.m. Fri., Oct. 20, both directions of Hwy 65 will close between 153rd Avenue and Constance Boulevard. During the closure, construction crews will install culverts beneath the highway to improve drainage in the area.

During the closure, traffic should follow the signed detours to avoid delays.

Southbound detour: West on Constance Blvd., south on Hanson Blvd. and east on Andover Blvd. to SB Hwy 65 (PNG).
Northbound detour: East on 153rd Ave., north on Xylite St. and west on Constance Blvd. to NB Hwy 65 (PNG).

One additional closure is planned the weekend of Oct. 27-30 on northbound Highway 65 between 109th Avenue and Main Street/Anoka County Road 14, weather permitting.

The weekend closures are part of preliminary work to prepare for a larger resurfacing and repair project on the highway in Anoka County next year. Construction this fall and next year is between Anoka County Road 10 (Mounds View Boulevard) in Spring Lake Park and 237th Avenue in East Bethel. Work this year includes construction of nine temporary crossovers to carry traffic across the median next year to allow traffic to cross the median and travel in a single lane in each direction on the side not under construction. Construction crews also will replace 12 culverts along the 14.5 mile stretch of road between Spring Lake Park and East Bethel. Work this year will be complete by mid-November.

As the second project on Highway 65 begins next spring, motorists will encounter single lane traffic and some full weekend closures with detours, as construction crews resurface 14.5 miles of roadway. Crews also will replace bridges with box culverts at Coon Creek and Viking Boulevard, reconstruct settled pavement, install cable median guardrail, improve drainage and install curb ramp and sidewalk improvements at several intersections. The project will be completed by late fall of 2024.
