First of four weekend closures planned Oct. 6-9 on Highway 65 in Spring Lake Park, Blaine

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The first of four weekend full closures along Highway 65 begins this weekend in Spring Lake Park and Blaine, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Beginning at 10 p.m. Fri., Oct. 6, Highway 65 will close in both directions between Anoka County Road 10/Mounds View Boulevard in Spring Lake Park and Highway 10 in Blaine. During the closure, construction crews will trench across the highway and through the ditch to install culverts to carry water beneath the roadway.

During the closure, traffic will follow signed detours:

Northbound Highway 65: West on Anoka County Road 10, north on University Avenue and east on Highway 10.
Southbound Highway 65: East on Highway 10, south on I-35W and west on County Road 10

Additional closures are planned the following three weekends, weather permitting:

109th – 125th/Main Street
153rd – Constance Blvd.
Constance Blvd – Crosstown Blvd.

The weekend closures are part of preliminary work to prepare for a larger resurfacing and repair project on the highway in Anoka County next year. Construction this fall and next year is between Anoka County Road 10 (Mounds View Boulevard) in Spring Lake Park and 237th Avenue in East Bethel. Work this year includes construction of four temporary crossovers to carry traffic across the median next year to allow traffic to cross the median and travel in a single lane in each direction on the side not under construction. Construction crews also will replace 12 culverts along the 14.5 mile stretch of road between Spring Lake Park and East Bethel. Work this year is will be complete by mid-November.

As the second project on Highway 65 begins next spring, motorists will encounter single lane traffic and some full weekend closures with detours, as construction crews resurface 14.5 miles of roadway. Crews also will replace box culvert bridges at Coon Creek and Viking Boulevard, reconstruct settled pavement, install cable median guardrail, improve drainage and install curb ramp and sidewalk improvements at several intersections. The project will be completed by late fall of 2024.
