Hwy 9/Main Avenue in Barnesville closes Aug. 28 for road construction

Phase 2 work to begin, thru-traffic detour remains in place

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Starting Monday, Aug. 28, weather permitting, Highway 9/Main Avenue in Barnesville will close from Front Street to Fourth Avenue, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Crews will begin work on Phase 2 of the Highway 9 reconstruction project, from Front Street to Fourth Avenue. The roadway will be impassable to all traffic from Front Street to the railroad tracks. Highway 9 thru-traffic remains detoured to Interstate 94 and County Road 30 until the project is complete in September.

Paving has been completed in Phase 1 (Main Avenue to Highway 34) and Phase 3 (Highway 34 to I-94), and these areas will reopen temporarily to all traffic for Barnesville Potato Days this weekend, Aug. 25-26.

There is still some concrete installation and other miscellaneous work to be completed in Phases 1 and 3, so local traffic should slow down in the work zone and watch for workers.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, and reminds them to slow down in the work zone, obey traffic control, and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
Visit the project website at mndot.gov/d4/projects/barnesville to learn more about the project, view detour maps and to sign up for project email updates.
