Stillwater Lift Bridge closes Tuesday, Aug. 1, for electrical work

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Stillwater Lift Bridge will close from 7 a.m. until about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, to replace an electrical power cable used to operate the lift span of the bridge, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. During the work, MnDOT will restrict all pedestrian and bicycle traffic from the bridge and suspend the lift schedule. The lift span of the bridge will remain in the down position although smaller boats and other watercraft will be allowed to pass beneath the structure.

Once the new electrical cable is installed, the bridge will reopen, and the lift span will resume lifts for marine traffic.

In case of inclement weather, MnDOT will repair the bridge during the same time on Wednesday, Aug. 2.

The city of Stillwater is currently building a pedestrian/bicycle plaza on Chestnut Street between Highway 95 (Main Street) and the lift bridge. The new plaza will feature plantings, landscaping, new sidewalks and lighting.

A two-block stretch of Highway 95 between Myrtle Street and Olive Street closed Monday, July 17, through late September. Workers are installing new water mains and storm sewer utilities, upgrading sidewalks and crossings to meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities) standards and installing a new signal system at the intersection of Highway 95 and Chestnut Street.
