Pedestrian, bicycle safety improvement project begins Monday, July 10, along Hwy 55 in Minneapolis

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – A project to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety and access is set to begin next week along Hwy 55 west of I-94 in Minneapolis, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Construction on sidewalks and curb ramps along Hwy 55 between Interstate 94 and Penn Avenue begins Monday, July 10. The improvements will replace or construct sidewalk, curb and gutter and pedestrian ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards at Thomas Avenue, Russell Avenue, Oliver Avenue, Newton Avenue, Logan Avenue, Knox Avenue, James Avenue and Frontage Road just west of I-94.

Construction crews will work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday. During the project, motorists will encounter intermittent lane and shoulder closures. Pedestrians and bicyclists also will encounter short-term closures and alternate routes during repairs to sidewalks, approaches and crossings.

Weather permitting, work will be completed mid-August.
