Update: Highway 59 closed south of Lancaster due to train derailment

Motorists will detour until approximately June 21

BEMIDJI, Minn. –(2:40 p.m.)The Minnesota Department of Transportation closed Highway 59 south of Lancaster due to a train derailment on May 31. Motorists will continue to detour utilizing Highway 175 and Kittson County road 5. The highway will remain closed to allow cleanup crews to continue their work. MnDOT is working closely with Canadian Pacific Kansas City railway and Kittson County to reopen Highway 59 as soon as possible.

Once railway repairs are complete, MnDOT plans to lift the detour and complete repairs on Highway 59 under traffic.

When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail.
