Clean Transportation Fuel Standard Working Group application process opens
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Minnesotans interested in serving on the Clean Transportation Fuel Standard Working Group are invited to submit their application materials by Weds., June 21, announced the Minnesota Department of Transportation today.
The 2023 Legislature established the Clean Transportation Fuel Standard Working Group to prepare recommendations for implementing a Clean Transportation Standard (CTS), including development of performance-based incentives to reduce carbon pollution from all transportation fuels including gasoline, diesel, biofuels, and electricity. The working group will be jointly convened by the Commissioners of Agriculture, Commerce, Transportation and the Pollution Control Agency.
By Feb. 1, 2024, the working group will develop recommendations for structuring a CTS that requires the aggregate carbon intensity of transportation fuel supplied to Minnesota be reduced to at least 25% below the 2018 baseline level by the end of 2030, by 75% by the end of 2040, and by 100% by the end of 2050.
As directed by the Legislature, appointments to the working group will include two individuals representing each of the following:
- renewable fuel producers;
- renewable natural gas and organic waste interests, including at least one local government that manages organic waste;
- general farm organizations;
- agricultural commodity groups;
- conventional transportation fuel producers and retailers;
- Tribal governments;
- environmental science organizations;
- environmental justice organizations;
- automotive manufacturers;
- forestry interests;
- electric utilities or cooperatives;
- electric vehicle charging infrastructure companies;
- aviation interests;
- water quality interests;
- a statewide organization of environmental and natural resource organizations;
- organizations with expertise in renewable energy and low-carbon transportation fuel policy;
- conservation organizations;
- organizations representing sustainable agriculture or regenerative biofuels producers;
- public health interests; and
- labor unions.
Members will be appointed by July 3 and the first meeting of the Clean Transportation Fuel Standard Working Group will be held on or before Aug. 1. Individuals interested in serving on the working group can submit their application materials on MnDOT’s website.
