Hwy 212 resurfacing and reconstruction project begins April 24
WILLMAR, Minn. – A Minnesota Department of Transportation project to resurface Highway 212 and reconstruct through Sacred Heart gets underway Monday, April 24. Crews will begin working at Highway 212 and Renville County Road 6 under traffic for two weeks. During this time, drivers may encounter temporary lane closures and are asked to be alert for equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
Detour starts May 8
The detour of Highway 212 is scheduled to be in place from May 8 through November 3. People who live, work, or visit homes and businesses along Highway 212 will have access to/from Highway 212 using designated access points. Drivers and pedestrians can expect changes and the use of alternate entrances as Highway 212 will be a busy work zone.
Residents, business owners, and visitors should watch for construction signs, sidewalk closures, gravel surfaces, and heavy equipment. They are encouraged to sign up for email updates at the Highway 212 project website . Start and end dates could change due to weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.
Project details
The project includes resurfacing Highway 212 with concrete from 2.3 miles east of Highway 23 to County Road 6 in Renville. Highway 212 will be reconstructed through Sacred Heart; sidewalks, pedestrian ramps and adjacent driveways will be upgraded to meet current American with Disabilities Act standards. Two storm water ponds are planned as part of storm sewer upgrades and a westbound passing lane will be constructed between Granite Falls and Sacred Heart.

Benefits of the project include a smoother road surface, improved drainage, compliance with ADA standards, and enhanced safety. Shafer Contracting Co., Inc., is the contractor, and the project cost is $25.5 million.
