Temporary Traffic Control - Train the Trainer
This one-day training course is used to certify personnel as temporary traffic control instructors. Upon successful completion of the course and examination, participants will be qualified to train employees in their agency or other agencies in the fundamentals of temporary traffic control.
Course is recommended for state, county, city, and private sector professionals who are responsible for the implementation of traffic control, including supervisors, lead workers, or any individual responsible for training others in temporary traffic control.
Course content
This course will cover the core requirements for setting up and implementing temporary traffic control. Topics include: MN MUTCD standards and guidelines, including the Field Manual, safe practices, worker and flagger attire and responsibilities, work zone speed limits, temporary work zone signing, barricades, channelizers, and pedestrian and bike considerations in work zones.
Certification expiration
Certification is valid for five years. The certification card specifies the expiration date.
Registration
All classes are in-person and available only at MnDOT facilities. Prospective attendees are strongly encouraged to have at least two years of traffic control experience or to be a certified Traffic Control Supervisor through MnDOT or ATSSA prior to enrollment.

- May 12, 2026 – MnDOT St. Cloud Training Center
- May 20, 2026 – MnDOT Shoreview Training Center
